Volunteering

If you plan to volunteer (classrooms, on field trips, at parties, or as a coach) in the Catholic School System you are expected to complete this list of checks and trainings outlined below to be in compliance with the Archdiocese mission to protect children and young people. A total of 4 signed forms must be returned to the school office.  If you would like a paper copy of these documents, they are available in the school office.

1. Complete an online criminal background check.
Online at www.archchicago.org scroll to the Protecting Children button then choose
The Office for the Protection of Children and Youth. Next click the Compliance for
Clergy, Employees and Volunteers link, then choose Criminal Background Screening.
Follow the eapps instructions on the attached sheet. The login word is PROTECTION.

2. Attend Virtus/Protecting God’s Children for Adults.
Online at Virtus.org select first time registrant.You must preregister in order to attend. If
you have attended training in another diocese, call 888-847-8870 and ask for a copy of
your Virtus certificate. Please be aware that not every diocese has reciprocity with the
Archdiocese of Chicago-you still may have to take Virtus in this diocese.
Please give the school office a copy of your Virtus certificate upon
completion of the training.

3. Read and sign the Code of Conduct.
Online at www.archchicago.org scroll to the Protecting Children button and
select Code of Conduct. Read it and sign the attached form. Return the signed
form to the school office.

4. Complete the Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking form (CANTS).
Online at www.archchicago.org scroll to the Protecting Children button and
select CANTS. Read the information and fill out the attached form. Return the
completed and signed form to the school office.

5. Complete Mandated Report Training.
Go online at www.dcfstraining.org/manrep/index.jsp. Complete the online
training, print the Mandated Reporter Training Certificate and return it to the
school office.
