Student Support
EVERY LEARNER HAS DIFFERENT NEEDS
At Sacred Heart, knowing our students means understanding how they learn best. For some, that means additional guidance or a new approach. For others, it means greater challenge and opportunities to go further.
Our Student Support team works alongside teachers, students and families to provide thoughtful, individualized support within the classroom whenever possible, and through individual or small-group instruction when beneficial.
The goal is simple: give every student the tools, confidence and opportunity to keep growing.
THE RIGHT SUPPORT. AT THE RIGHT TIME.
Our Student Support team works in partnership with classroom teachers, students and families to understand each learner’s needs and provide thoughtful, individualized support. From targeted academic intervention and enrichment to social-emotional support, our goal is to give students the tools they need to grow with confidence.
LEARNING SPECIALIST
Working closely with students, families and teachers, our Learning Specialist helps students with diagnosed learning needs develop effective strategies and make meaningful progress.
Support includes learning strategies, progress monitoring, IEP and 504 coordination, collaboration with outside agencies, and individualized services for 6th-8th graders.
SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Our School Counselor supports students’ academic, social and emotional growth through individual and group work, classroom programming, and collaboration with families and teachers.
Students build skills in communication, friendship, conflict resolution, decision-making, cooperation and resilience.
READING SPECIALIST
Our Reading Specialist provides individual and small-group instruction designed to strengthen decoding, encoding, fluency and comprehension through multi-sensory reading intervention.
Support also includes reading assessments, intervention planning and collaboration with classroom teachers.
SPEECH PATHOLOGIST
Through our partnership with Winnetka District 36, eligible students have access to on-site speech services twice each week, with support determined by individual student needs.
CLASSROOM SUPPORT
A full-time floating classroom aide provides additional assistance throughout the school day, allowing support to happen where students need it most.
MATH SPECIALIST
Our Math Specialist meets students where they are—providing targeted support when concepts are challenging and enrichment when students are ready to go further.
Benchmark assessments in grades 1–8 help identify opportunities for targeted instruction, individualized attention and additional challenge.
CERTIFIED THERAPY DOG
Our certified therapy dog, Bernie, provides another layer of support for students throughout the school day. His calming presence offers comfort, encourages connection and can help create a welcoming environment where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Bernie works alongside trained staff and can be found visiting classrooms, spending time with individual students and simply being a reassuring presence when a student needs a little extra support.
