Code of Conduct

Sacred Heart School is a faith-based community of faculty, parents and staff dedicated to educating the hearts and minds of our students.
 
Participation in interscholastic athletics is an important part of this education as it not only provides our students with the opportunity to learn the values of teamwork, but also to demonstrate good sportsmanship consistent with their Christian faith and our school's core values of Love, Serve, Engage, Discover and Persevere.

For Our Athletes:

As a Sacred Heart Athlete, it's important to follow some guidelines that help us all have fun, stay safe, and show respect to everyone. Please read through the following rules carefully and don't hesitate ask your guardians or coaches if anything is unclear.

Be Respectful:
  • Always show respect and kindness to your teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents.
  • Listen to your coaches and follow their instructions.
 
Be a Good Sport:
  • Cheer for your teammates and be positive, whether you win or lose.
  • Help your teammates and opponents if they fall or get hurt.

Stay Calm:
  • Keep your cool, even if the game gets tough. No yelling, arguing, or fighting.
  • If something bothers you, talk to your coach privately after the game or practice.

Use Good Language:
  • Use kind and respectful words. No bad language or mean comments.
  • Remember, what you say online or in person matters. Be nice on social media too.

Stay Healthy and Safe:
  • Tell your coach if you're hurt or not feeling well.
  • Avoid risky behaviors that can hurt you or others.

Follow the Rules:
  • No use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons. This is very important to keep everyone safe.
  • Always show up ready to play and give your best effort.

Remember:
  • Your actions represent not just you, but also your team and Sacred Heart School.

If You Break the Rules:
  • You might get a warning from your coach.
  • Your parents might get a written warning or be asked to miss a game.
  • In serious cases, you might be suspended from games or the team.

For Our Parents:

Parents serve a critical role in ensuring our children's participation in athletics accomplishes these goals and is a positive experience that enriches their Sacred Heart education. As a parent of a Sacred Heart Athlete, we ask you to be mindful of your role and abide by and follow the rules and guidelines below:
  1. I (and my guests) wil be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by demonstrating respect, courtesy, and positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or event.

  2. I will encourage my child to play by the rules and Iwil demand that my child treat al players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

  3. I will maintain self-control at games, practices and other school events and Iwil praise my child for playing hard and for competing fairly.

  4. I will support the coaches and allow them to do their job without interference during games or practices. If I have a question or concern, Iwil take the time to speak with coaches calmly, privately and at an agreed upon time and place.

  5. I will respect the decisions of all referees and officials at all times and Iwil not complain or become confrontational about penalties or calls.

  6. I will promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of all athletes participating in a competition ahead of any personal desire for my child or his/ her team.

  7. I will immediately contact my child's coach and/or a member of the Sacred Heart Athletics Committee if I see anything of concern from or about an official, another Sacred Heart coach, player or club member on a social media site.

  8. I will be accountable for the actions of my child on social media sites. Iwill stress to my child the importance of proper conduct on these sites and provide parental oversight to prevent cyber- bullying by my child.

  9. I will inform the coach of any physical disability, illness or injury that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

 
As a parent or guardian of a student-athlete at Sacred Heart, your actions reflect not only on you, but on your child, his/her team and the school. Accordingly, you agree that you will not engage in inappropriate and/or impermissible activities, including, but not limited to, the following:
  1. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes and I will never ridicule or yell at my child or any child on any team for making a mistake or losing a game.

  2. I (and my guests) will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or parent such as booing, taunting or using profane language or gestures.

  3. I will not use foul language towards anyone (coaches, teammates, officials, opponents, or spectators) and I will not engage in any language or actions with the intent to hurt, intimidate, or humiliate any player, coach, official or spectator. These acts shall be considered harassment and will result in the immediate removal from the practice, game, or event.

  4. I will not post on any social media site with the intent to initiate, hurt, intimidate, or humiliate any player, coach, official or spectator. The posting of negative, demeaning, or derogatory comments will not be tolerated. These acts shall be considered harassment and may result in the immediate removal of the student-athlete from the team.

  5. I will adhere to the Sacred Heart Zero Tolerance Policy and I will never use or be under the influence of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products, or in the possession of weapons of any kind at practices, games, trips, or other events.

Violators of our Code of Conduct, may be subject to disciplinary actions that could include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:
 
  • Verbal warning by Head Coach and/or Sacred Heart School
  • Written Warning
  • Parental Game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file by Sacred Heart Athletics Committee
  • Parental Season suspension
  • Parental Suspension from all future Games (Home or Away), Practices and Events.
