All about Me!

This is my 22nd year at at Sacred Heart School where I have taught Jr. Kindergarten along with Kindergarten. I have also taught kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and ESL in public school. I have a BA in Elementary Education as well as a MEd. in Early Childhood Education. I have four grown children and 4 grandsons who are the lights in my life!

I relate to theorists David Elkind and Vivian Paley who understand the importance of play-based learning and giving children time to develop in all academic as well as social/emotional areas, at their own pace. I believe that kindergarten is the most fun year of school for children. It's the launching off point for all future learning. I firmly believe that, "It's a good day to play!" We refer to ourselves as the Kinderbees because we learn all about Bees and their importance in providing us with food. We also like to use the word "bee" whenever we can! We can "bee" our best selves in this class!

I am also the Early Childhood Coordinator where I oversee the pre-school, Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes and teachers.  We share cutting edge ideas on how to reach our earliest learners in a developmentally appropriate way. We believe in experiential learning with a hands-on approach. I love giving tours to prospective parents because there are so many great things to share about SHS! Our programs and teachers are the best in their field and dedicate their time to meeting the academic, physical most importantly, the social emotional development of each child. They meet each child right where they are at and work to help them grow!

We have the privilege of watching the students begin their faith journey here! We nurture and  help them grow in their love for the Lord.

Kiersten Kerrane is the Kindergarten Assistant this year! She is a graduate of Sacred Heart School as well as Loyola Academy and Forham University in NY. She was also a former JK student of Mrs. Wettersten's! Ms. Kerrane is one of 6 children and lives in Winnetka. She has a degree in Psychology and is a voracious reader who loves a good mystery! She also likes to write fiction and poetry. Ms. Kerrane is an accomplished snow skier who loves to ski any chance she gets! She is also a lover of bees!!! She grew up watching her grandparents tend to bee hives in their yard. We are so happy to have her here in room 204!
